At CES, Intel demonstrated a proof-of-concept PC, specifically built to counter AMD's 4x4 platform for gamers. Called the 'V8' system, the PC runs on a pair of quad core Kentsfield Xeon processors taking the number of physical cores to eight.

The system runs at 2.4 GHz utilizing 1066 MHz system bus and uses FB-DIMM memory. The graphic support is in the form of a single 8800GTX card. According to Intel, the system gave a score of 6089 on 3DMark CPU bench.

Dual processor systems have not been as popular as they used to be since the advent of dual core systems, besides dual core systems turned out to be more expensive and needed a higher level of expertise. AMD's 4x4 system officially called as the Quad FX can work with regular unbuffered memory as opposed to Intel's V8 that requires FB-DIMMs. Besides the Quad FX can also take dual graphic cards in SLI whereas the V8 currently supports only a single graphics card.
